Converting your attic is one of the best ways to add space to your property and increase its value, and there are plenty of options. Perhaps you want a chill-out space for your children, or maybe a home office? Those are both good options, but you should also think about moving your master bedroom up to the attic.

Here are just four reasons why.

1. Abundant Natural Light

One of the nicest things about any kind of attic conversion is being able to install skylights to let in plenty of natural light. However, it's an even more wonderful benefit when you use the attic for your master bedroom. As well as having plenty of light to dress by, you'll be able to wake up and see the open sky right above you. When you slip into bed each night, you'll be able to look up and check out the stars, with moonlight providing soft illumination.

2. Plenty of Space

An attic conversion can take up the whole floor, which puts plenty of space at your disposal. Of course, the fact that attics have sloping ceilings is problematic for most rooms; with a master bedroom, it's an advantage. Firstly, the peak of the ceiling is a natural place to put your bed under, making the room look custom-made for purpose. Even better, those sloping ceilings are great for storage. You can hang rails for your clothes and then line up shoes and other such items beneath.

3. Nice and Private

It's always nice to have the place you sleep feel separate from the rest of your home, so having a whole floor just for your master bedroom feels pretty luxurious. You'll also enjoy the added privacy, especially if you have teenagers in the house. If they like to stay up late in the living room, you'll have a whole floor in between your bed and the sound of the television. Even if they're listening to music in their rooms, far less sound will come through a well-insulated floor compared to a standard wall.

4. Frees Up Child-Friendly Space

Even if you have younger children instead of teenagers, placing your bedroom in the attic makes sense. An attic conversion isn't ideal for younger children to use since the steps to get up are often quite steep. By moving your master bedroom upstairs, you'll free up the other bedroom to be to used as another child's room or as a playroom.
